Installing Java:

Step 1:
-Go to System at the top, go down to Administration, then click on Synaptic Package Manager.

Step 2:
-You will be prompted to enter your password, do so then continue on and the Synaptic Package Manager will open.

Step 3:
-In the Synaptic Package Manager window, click on Settings at the top, then click on Repositories on the drop down menu.

Step 4:
-In the Software Sources window click on the Other Software tab at the top.

Step 5:
-Check the boxes next to both of the Canonical Partners repositories and then close this window.

Step 6:
-In the Quick Search box on the top left, type in sun-java6

Step 7:
-Check each box for sun-java6-bin, sun-java6-jre, and sun-java6-plugin and select Mark for Installation from the menu that pops up when each box is clicked.

Step 8:
-Click the Apply button at the top and this will finish installing Java

Step 9:
-Restart your computer and continue to the Java Site to take the Java Verification Test.

Step 10:
-If the Java site says you have the current version of Java then you're ready to go. If not then try restarting your computer and try this tutorial again.

This worked perfect for me on the first try and I'm running Ubuntu 10.10
