Problems, two monitors, DVI and HDMI

I can't manage to get two monitors up and running. I have one 22" 1680x1050 LCD Monitor through DVI and one 32" 1366x768 LCD TV connected to the computer through HDMI. My problem is that I can't figure out how to get any signal through the HDMI to the TV.

I have NVIDIA driver 173 working fine with a GeForce 8200 on 64bit Intrepid.

I have tried TwinView and googled for hours searching for a solution, trying to enable TwinView. I have not found a way yet. In "NVIDIA X Server Settings" --> "X Server Display Configuration", "Seperate X screen" is the only available option. "Disabled" and "TwinView" are both greyed out. "Detect displays" doesn't give any results.

I installed Ubuntu with only the DVI monitor connected.

I am only going to run xbmc in the TV monitor so there might be alternatives to TwinView, but either way I don't have the skillz needed to modify xorg.conf.

    Here's a copy of my xorg.conf:
    Code:
    # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
    # nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder58) Wed Oct 1 15:12:53 PDT 2008

I need help to rewrite this file to support both of my monitors. Please ask for more info, if needed.

Re: Problems, two monitors, DVI and HDMI

I plugged my TV through VGA instead. The driver detected the TV and I switched to TwinView and restarted. This resulted in no signal on the computer monitor and a 800x600 resolution on the TV. I could not get any signal to the computer monitor before I unplugged the VGA from the TV and rebooted.

Now I'm stuck with 1280x720 resolution on my 1680x1050 screen. The driver stopped working and now won't install properly. I have pretty good experience on how to install the Nvidia driver by now. I have tried four different ways with no success. I just can't get it to work and I am getting fed up with stupid Ubuntu/Linux. There's just always something...
