    Touchpad not responding after Suspend/Hibernate

    Hello,

I am semi-new to Linux (Ubuntu). I installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my Gateway MX-6440, and it is working great so far. I do have one problem and that is when I put the laptop into either Suspend or Hibernate, after waking the touchpad no longer responds (works fine when laptop boots normally). The Synaptics Touchpad drivers are installed and configured. I have also put the following in the xorg.conf file in the Synaptics Touchpad section:

    "SHMConfig" "on"

Has anybody else ran into this problem? Does anybody know how to fix this?

I checked the xorg.0.log and here is the output:

    (II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnabledDataReporting: succeeded
Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics event device found (checked 18 nodes)
(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/event8
    No such file or directory

(WW) Synaptics Touchpad: cannot open input device
    couldn't enable device 4

The touchpad device number varies (sometimes it is event7, or event8). After coming out of Suspend/Hibernate, "xinput list" returns the following:

    "Synaptics Touchpad" id=4 [XExtensionPointer]
    Num_buttons is 12
    Nux_axes is 2
    Mode is Relative
    Motion_Buffer is 256
    Axis 0:
    Min_value is 0
    Max_value is -1
    Resolution is 3
    Axis 1:
    Min_value is 0
    Max_value is -1
    Resolution is 0

Re: Touchpad not responding after Suspend/Hibernate

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 (desktop/gnome/normal). I'm using a Gateway MX6128. Touchpad works fine until coming back from suspend, then nothing.

I'm a fairly advanced user/programmer, but I'm new to Linux. I'd be happy to post any configs/logs/etc that might be helpful if you tell me how to get them.

    Thanks.

Anyone posted bug reports or anything to get us going or have we missed something?

Hi, I had the same problem with my laptop Amilo PRO V3205. I solved it by downgrading my BIOS to version 1.10.
I think playing with your bios version might help
