    How to remove HDD password

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 600M that has a HDD password. I tried the HD in another system and the password is in the firmware of the drive.
Can I remove this, you know of any application that will do this.
I have read that if I insert anther HD it will became locked too, while I do not believe this to be true, I want to make sure if any one here has done it.
    Any insight will be appreciated.

Neither I can't format the drive because it has the password stored in the firmware.

Re: How to remove HDD password

There are a few companies that offer a service to unlock hard drive passwords, but their cost exceeds the price of a new hard drive. There is no free/open source programs that I am aware of. Unless there is very important data you must have off the drive, I'd buy a new HDD instead.

I can get an adaptor to connect it to a desktop as a second drive then use this application. I have neither.
