Device not mountable - any solutions?

Hi there

I am trying to connect my mobile to my computer, but have run into some difficulty. Basically if i just plug my mobile in (via usb) nothing appears, even though my phone says 'connected'. To get the computer to register my mobile being pluged in, i need to start the computer up with it pluged in - which doesn't seem quite right. And even then if i click on the symbol called 'Usb Drive' - which i assume is my phone, as it only appears when i have restarted the computer with my phone pluged in, it tells me -

unable to mount location
no media in the drive

It is rather annoying seeming as it worked fine before i updated to 8.10 and now i cannot backup my mobile, and transfer anything too it.

(by the way - the mobile is a Nokia 6300 - if it matters)

Ok, so i just checked, and other devices are working fine (usb memory sticks)

the strange thing, is on 8.04 my mobile was called 'memory card' but on 8.10 its called 'mobile memory' - So i don't think my computer is seeing the mobiles memory card...

any ideas PLEASE?

I'm having this trouble too, and i have the same phone. It used to work fine on Hardy, and has only stopped since i upgraded

Having the same problem with the same Nokia 6300.
Running Ubuntu 8.10

yes - same problem as both of you - its the 8.10 - i don't know what they've changed.

Anyway - this serves more as a bump than anything else - COMMON forum members - show you true colours - Help

Its due to a bug in the new kernel. Hopefully, its gonna be fixed in the next kernel upgrade.

If it's (just) a bug in the new kernel, no problem. I'm confident it will be fixed soon. This Ubuntu is giving so much more that I don't want to moan about this one.

same here =( nokia 6300, and i once got wammu to recognize it, but i couldnt open any files, and now even wammu wont recognize it T_T
if anyone knows how to solve this, please help

well, this problem no longer applies to me, got the g1 - but just thought i'd bump it...
