I have a new ThinkPad with an onboard Intel video card, and my goal is for the laptop display to be disabled when my external display is plugged in. I'm definitely a noob when it comes to editing xorg.conf but I'm more than happy to dig around in a how-to if anyone can recommend a good one - otherwise any more specific suggestions would of course be much appreciated.

As an alternative, I'd be perfectly fine with mirroring the two displays at my external's resolution (with the laptop screen taking displaying part of the total footprint) since that would have the same effect.

Here's my current xorg.conf (I haven't manually edited it at all):

Code:
# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously
# in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings
# here are ignored.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
