    Old computer, which X/U/k Ubuntu ?

    I am about to take possestion of an old laptop, its specs are, 1.5 ish Ghz amd64, 512mb ram.
    Any ideas which type of ubuntu best suits?, it will be just used for basic surfing and email. I would prefer KDE4 on it but not sure if it could handle it.

    Thanks:

    Full blown Ubuntu will run fine on those specs. Ubuntu also has the most support as it is the most widely used.

    I have run 8.04 on machines as 'low' as 600mhz and only 256MB RAM. They're not 'peppy' but they run fine.

    I'm running standard Ubuntu on a 1.6 GHZ / 512 RAM laptop and it's fine for web and email. If I hit a flash heavy site while playing music on it with GIMP open it'll bog down a bit - but that is easily solved by more RAM.

    Ubuntu most definately. If you decide you need more speed, you can use XFCE4 by running the following:
    Code:
    $ sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop
