And there you are in the thick of it, a very busy channel and a little chaotic too. For the moment we will leave this channel and set things up a little better:

/leave Put your witty parting shot here!!

This closes the active channel and leaves us to complete the setup.

Just a thought, shouldn't it be:

/leave #ubuntu Put your witty parting shot here!!

Since that's the channel you want to part?

Well you can certainly do that, although you note that I have specified the active window. Using the default irssi config /leave is actually an alias for the /part command, the help info for this command shows:

PART [<channels>] [<message>]
 
Parts from the current or specified channel. Depending on your settings, 
closes the corresponding window, too.

So either way is fine...
