Hi all,
I've done something dumb. I was setting up my dv camera and trying to use the controls in the gui to manipulate the camera (ff, rew, play etc) inside kino (and cinelerra). The controls worked sometimes. So I found a site with some instructions which may make this more possible. Part of the procedure was to create a group named 'firewire' and put myself into that group. So, I went about doing that, but for some reason, I decided to put 'root' in that group as a user also.
Not a good idea. Next time I try to sudo anything, not allowed, not is sudoers group!
So, not sure what has happened but all I do know is that when I go to users and groups, I can't unlock the group named 'firewire' to delete it, take root out or anything else. It seems to be acting the same way as root (shaded and impenetrable!).
I've hunted about and am about to get back into doing that, but has anyone got any ideas how I might resolve this quickly? I need to get that machine back to stable so I can finish the vid project I am working on within the next couple of days. This is my first foray into dv editing in Linux so there is bound to be some teething problems, especially with an 'idiot outside'! From memory (something similar has happened in the early days), I need to use vi or vim? All clues gratefully accepted ...
