    Privacy related? neomailbox.com Posteo.de and aikQ.de

    Portaro,
Thunderbird + Enigmail addon all into Gmail as this will allow you to send encrypted emails that most judge to be secure. Please remember that the subject line will be in clear text and that convincing those you wish to commutate with to adopt encryption may well be a hard job. I would also have a handful of Gmail accounts in case one dies.

secure as in hacking aspect or privacy aspect?

privacy aspect most likely tormail and use a pgp key.

    secure as in secure

zoho mail let's you filter ip's and only allow access to that single ip so that is secure

also gmail you can activate 2 step and it becomes pretty secure also

The one you build yourself on a server in your home or office.

Just out of curiosity, Why would a Gmail account die? Is it against Google policy to send encrypted email through Gmail servers?

Not at all as far as I know Traxster as I do it via thunderbird + enigmail and have done it for quite a while.
I'm thinking more along the lines of forgetting password, having your password hacked or being shut out due to unusual usage.
Apart from the above a couple of additional gmail accounts with good name may confer minor bragging rights.

    Got it thanks,

I have thunderbird + enigmail installed configured with Gmail and plan on using it soon.

TorMail, hands down. You'll need the Tor Browser Bundle, but you can access it via tormail.org, it gives you both anonymous, and extremely secure, e-mail. Unlike almost every other e-mail service, not even the government can demand to get e-mail logs.

Also, TorMail allows POP3 access (I think), so you can use Thunderbird and the like.
