    Re: Samsung NC20

have tried new 32-bit VIA Chrome driver on the nc20 with ubuntu 11.04

    I get with kernel 2.6.38-13-generic:
    Code:
    # modprobe via_chrome9
FATAL: Error inserting via_chrome9 (/lib/modules/2.6.38-13-generic/updates/dkms/via_chrome9.ko): Invalid module format

    # dmesg | tail
    ...
    [ 168.797431] via_chrome9: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
But driver seems to work with old kernel 2.6.35 from Ubuntu 10.10 but Xorg crashes with SEGFAULT when it used

for testing, new snapshoot of openchrome

    mailling list

    "Hello

Today is another snapshot release. Now the xorg driver supports
resizing for UMS mode. You will be able to attach a HD monitor to your
laptop and using randr be able to use it. This fix also makes the NC20 and
XO usable again. The problem on both devices is the screen limits in
virtual size is wrong. The problem is not really fixed but with resizing
the screen is reset to the proper size. With the advent of KMS this will
eventually just go away. So as it stands the kms branch is usable across
the present devices supported in the master branch.
The last set of the bugs left is Xv on the CLE266 and VX900. I
plan to add RandR properties to the xorg driver as well. Currently the KMS
part of the xorg driver is being hit by the fbfill pixman bug. I haven't
tracked down what is causing this problem yet. Also it has been observed
EXA corruption bugs that happen randomly. The EXA needs a massive over
haul but that will be saved for after the release. Give it a try and let
me know how ti works for you."

I've tried on Ubuntu 11.04. Firstly it lead to SEGFAULT. any way.
Then I reinstalled Ubuntu (to SSD) and tried again. It shows monocolour blinking screen when module is loaded

So I'm trying to upgrade up to 11.10 and test again

There seems to be a new driver for 12.04. Any hardcore NC20-user who tried this one?

    Re: Samsung NC20

I installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 on a friends NC-20. I checked xorg.0.log and saw it used the Openchrome driver. Seemed to work like a charm except Youtube stuttered terribly in fullscreen mode but that is more likely a Flash problem. I have recommended her some possible solutions to try.

    Re: Samsung NC20

Have tried the new VIA drivers for 12.04 on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. After Grub menu, the screen shows somthing like snow effect on the old cathode tube TVs. I'm not so expert as tom09 at Linux but I followed the step by step readme instructions and terminal gave me no errors. So maybe there's nothing good from VIA yet.
