    Wireless N 300Mbps missing in Ubuntu

    Dear All,

    I have very odd problem. First of all my setup :
    WiFi router - mikrotik 2011uas-2hnd-in;
    Client 1 - Ubuntu 14.04 with Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak]
    Client 2 - Windows 7 with Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak]

    The problem is that windows client is linking to the router with 300Mbps and Linux client is linking with max of 150 Mbps. I'm pretty sure that router is right configured.
    Also tried Client 1 with windows setup and guess what... it's linking with 300Mbps. So my guess is that something wrong going on with Ubuntu. Tried the mainline kernel (3.14.5) and default 3.13.0-27-generic, still no change.

    I doubt I can make it any better, but still, I'd like to see a detailed diagnostics report. Please follow the instructions in this post to download and run 'wireless_script' (experimental version) and post back the report it generates : http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=13024222

    In the meanwhile, you may try the following driver parameters - swcrypto=1 and bt_coex_active=N. If you don't know how to use them, just post the report I asked above, and we'll try them according to the report.

    Thank you for your replay! I think already tried swcrypto=1 and it makes no difference. I'm not quite sure where should i use bt_coex_active=N.

    Windows drivers are developed by device manufacturers themselves (hence coded or 'patched' to deliver optimal performance), while the Linux drivers are developed mostly by volunteers, only the firmware (where applicable) is supplied by the manufacturers.

    You are using 'tlp', which includes scripts that try to save power on all devices, including wireless, as much and as often as possible. I'm not sure how much these scripts or the whole package can affect the wireless performance, but can you try Ubuntu (same version) in Live mode so we can determine if the link/speed is same or different without this package? If it seems to perform better in Live mode, you may try disabling the wireless power-saving script by removing its 'executable' permission -

    Oh, and at this high speed (even 150 Mb/s), you might wish to make the 'swcrypto=1' parameter permanent by adding a line -

    ..into your /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf file. No need for that if the 'Actual' file transfer speed looks good and consistent with the 'Link' speed. But if you notice too slow speeds compared to 'Link' speed, try that.

    I already tried different Linux distrubution - Fedora 20. There is no difference The really odd thing is that friend of mine has Intel N 2230 + Fedora 20 and working on 300Mbps. My guess is that only N1000 is broken.

    If the practical transfer speeds are consistent with 150 Mbps, I wouldn't call it "broken", just not optimal. The 'N' mode depends on many factors - both internal and external, and can reach its peak when everything is in optimal condition - driver, firmware (both in the router/ap and the card), signal quality, distance etc. Anything goes down, the result is a faulty connection.

    Most of us wireless troubleshooters here consider even 150 Mbps really good if the connection is stable and strong!

    You can also say that I (or 'we') say so because we are clueless on how to make it optimal, which by the way is true for the most part at least in my context..

    Linux is showing the TX bitrate, which is = 1. And windows (dunno why) is showing the RX rate, which is = 2.
    Mikrotik shows bitrate of it's clients, in this case my Linux laptop :

    So Tx for Mikrotik is Rx for my Laptop = 240 Mbps (in other words RX rate = 2). Rx for Mikrotik is Tx for my laptop (in oder words Tx rate =1).

    Hey guys,

    Trying to get some help from you, you might tell me what might cause this phenomenon:

    Dualbooting (ubuntu + windows) Dell Studio XPS 1640, with Intel wifi 5100 + tp-link wdr3600 on 5Ghz

    On ubuntu, I only get 150Mbps speed, according to Network Manager.
    On Windows, I can get 300Mbps.

    The answer to this might be the one pressko said. But!

    I checked my speed with this program: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ifispeedtester

    Using it on Ubuntu, I get max. 22Mbit/s. Nothing changes, I restart my computer, and the same program using it with Windows, measure even 57.8Mbit/s. How is this possible? What is wrong with Ubuntu? Why can't I get the same speed with it?
    Please help, I'm getting mad a little.
