Now I understand. The link on Realtek's site for that driver says RTL8188CE. That threw me. Now I'm on the same page. I'm about to give that driver a try.

If I get the microphone working I'll post an update.

This could be a sweet little Linux laptop. Can't wait to get it working.

More adventurous folk can try the xorg-edgers PPA and the 2.6.38 kernel within. It should get LAN and bluetooth working without special drivers. Or you could just use Natty..

I'm currently up and running on an X120E with Ubuntu 10.10. The two problem areas for me were video and wireless, everything else, including sound worked out of the box. I didn't opt for blue tooth since I don't need it.

I purchased mine with the A/B/G/N driver option thinking that it would be easier to make work than the Realtek, well as it turns out the driver that is available in 10.10 doesn't work with the 0576 Broadcom card, so I had to install the version from here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php . Wireless performance and range do seem to be very excellent with this card however.

I installed the fglrx that comes with 10.10, but got the watermark on the bottom right saying my card was unsupported but seemed to have working video acceleration. I ended up downloading the latest e-350 Catalyst drivers directly from AMD which fixed the issue.

I had no luck with 11.04, I tried the Alpha3 and snap shot and both would lock up during installation for me.

Lastly I am having issues playing full screen flash movies, they just don't play the video... I would appreciate it if anyone has info or help for this problem.

updated also and I had input for a short time and then nothing.
This was with 'ideapad' param. I'll try others tomoorow.
Update:
I think it may be working but w/ a pulseaudio problem now.
So, the alsa update MAY have worked.
I can see input on the input tab of gnome-volume-control but eventually that stops working.
I'll update again when I know more.

does anyone have bluetooth working? I don't seem to even have it installed when i do an lspci or lsusb. Can someone show the relevant lsusb or lspci with bluetooth?

My 120e is configured w/ realtek wireless, bluetooth, and no Wimax/WAN.

Recap to help others since I've been working on this on and off since friday.
Any help on what isn't working below would be great.

I'm going to grab a spare hard drive and try more things later this week.

Some comments on Natty:

• Enabled efi only in cmos setup / No Bios install
• Natty04 March current build installed using efi and text mode install w/ natty
• Bluetooth worked in Natty on first boot but not on later install
• Wireless worked w/ additional driver in Natty
• internal microphone works (alsa version 1.0.24)
• flgrx did not work (version of xorg?)
• webcam not tested
• internal microphone works

So, I switched to maverick:

• compiling driver from realtek site activated wireless (see posts above for driver name)
• microphone input seems to need an alsa update but is not fully working (see posts above, maybe I have pulse problem now?)
• bluetooth seems to be disabled since it does not show up w/ lspci (it is enabled in cmos setup)
• hibernate does not work (freezes)
• suspend does work
• some fn function keys do not work (F3 (microphone disabe?),F6 (camera/mic)),F5 wireless kill
• have not tested external microphone since I don't have one handy
• webcam works
• fglrx install works

Has anyone tried an lenovo intel 5100 wireless card yet?

It worked in Natty (EFI). No luck w/ Maverick.
I'm grabbing another hard drive and will reinstall Natty and try a Maverick EFI install.
May not have time to do this until the weekend.
I tried a kernel ppa w/ a 2.6.37 kernel but it killed fglrx. I will reboot into that kernel and try a lspci.

So, bluetooth still isn't there.

UPDATE: did not work after another natty install. I did boot windows one time. Maybe that enabled it temporarily.

if the kernels present no difference it must be efi setting? how do i enable that in the bios, i am just using the stock bios settings from the laptop. Also if you do go back to natty I am curious how the bt card shows up. I am just worried they sent me my laptop with out bt and i will have to ship it back to lenovo.
