It's free but it has an incredibly high learning curve. It's kind of like Dungeon Keeper/Sim City. It's NOT in any way a "pick up and play" game but those looking for depth will like it.
The game looks incredible, but I can't get it to work. Where did you extract it too?

(Altough it's sys. requirements are steep for a 2d game: AT LEAST 1 ghz processor with 512 MB RAM, and more is (higly!) recommended. Video card doesn't really matter tough)
    +1

Don't forget the classic chess and card games too.

Just extract it to a folder, change to the folder with the console, and run
    Code:
    wine dwarfort.exe
which of course requires wine: http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb

I'm considering packing the game with a gnome launcher and posting it on the forums.
    Currently favorite songs:
Miss Hyde, This Song Is About Monsters, Masagin, I Will Try to Blow it Out, La Resistance

Okay, it doesn't work unless I run it through the terminal. Just double clicking on the .exe (as i do successfully with most other wine applications) gives me the fatal error of a missing index.

    Gweled Bejeweled clone
    and
gPlanarity if you like to untie knots
previously I would have mentioned crack attack and frozen bubble but gweled has taken over.

I also engage in a game of Knetwalk which has overtaken my previous Kpatience habit.

Anyone mentioned SuperTux yet? That's brilliant. My personal fave though is Secret Maryo Chronicles (in the repo under smc). I think they've done a bang up job on that one. Great fun, well recommended old school platformer. It's rock hard though.
