I just did a fresh install of 10.04, and want to install the Nvidia drivers via the Software Center update icon in the top right.
However, I can't tell what version they are - the update manager is vague on that point, and a google search for "Ubuntu 10.04 Nvidia driver version" didn't help either.
Suggestions?
Use hardware appelet and install nvidia current, that gets you the last driver 195.36.15, current is 195.36.24

They aren't up to date ... yes, but you never know what sort of damage you'll run into with a newer driver. (hint)
That issue affected limited cards and nvidia was prompt in removing those, that don't mean one should be prevented from using latest drivers. Since Lucid is LTS slated for next three years, I guess one goes out and gets a new card only to find that the drivers don't support it since they are three years old, with this attitude, Linux desktop is going to loose big to MS, no ifs and or buts.
