After various kernel updates in the Karmic development line I kept on losing sound.
I tried again with #98 but no luck.
I found, however, this bit that perfectly worked for me with kernel 2.6.31-12 without even restarting!
From http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...t=418403#soundCode:apt-get build-dep alsa-source wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.21.tar.bz2 tar jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.21.tar.bz2 cd alsa-driver-1.0.21 ./configure make make install alsa force-reload
Good luck!
Thanks for the input, got inspired to upgrade to Karmic. After executing #98 sound works. Also restart works now. Can't tell yet if the other features work well though. Nice to finally have sound back!
hows the battery life on it?
Same as Jaunty. Around 5 to 6 hours.
Ubuntu Jaunty on HP-S3580D, MBP 13
Ubuntu Karmic on Vaio X118
Wow! only get 1 hour.. 30 mins tops
