I don't get why you have to slight me about mir. I can take a joke but this is a lot of volunteer work here. I tried to return the favor http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...8#post12574768 but it appears that it rubbed you the wrong way.

Hey .. I'm just trying to test the best that I can ..not to rub you the wrong way ... but to beta test mir .

I think You completely misunderstood me, I think... I'll take that completely on me and stop any further discussion... Let me say: Mea culpa and that is it... I tried to help in testing whatever is present of Mir yet, but... I'll just say: Mir, brother... Without any rubbing, please...

Yes .. I did misunderstand you . You not a culpa .. mea culpa ! Please .. say whatever you want about mir .. it's currently a horror in it's current state but ..ya know .. what are we going to do at this stage of the game ?? Plea with Mark S. to not implement Mir and go back to walyland/weston ??? or just stick with X?? I know .. . I know.. there is always archlinux and slackware and a gazzilion other distros . I first started my PC science carreer at Norfolk &Western Railway in Detroit Mi learning how the IBM UniVax punch card machine would line up box cars or railway tracks in rows and colums - sort of like a real life matrix .. I was 11 years old. My programming career started with pinball machines. (I used to maintain a device called the game_mech) and all the operations were controlled by resetting the game mech and setting these switches, all relay controlled. and from there on to old space invader games. So , if it seems like I am a dinosaur to Ubuntu or Linux .. then .. E'll yes .. I am but I gotta keep moving on to cutting edge stuff because I just get bored really easy .. and nobody should have to feel intimidated just because I 'm bored.

Whatever the case .. I think the Ubuntu community is stuck with mir .. so my line of approach is to attack it as often as I can .. offer what I can to make it better and get it rolling. I know that I will probably put my foot in my mouth more often that not and eat a lot of crow also but I honestly think it is worth the time. So it is really up to us , all of us in the community. What we contribute to testing mir in these early days may make the difference of mir being a beautiful masterpiece or a complete failure.

    Thanks for your time..

    regards,
    Ventrical

Looking at all your posts it seems you are investing a lot of time to test MIR however I think it is better to check from time to time what is in the MIR repo and test later in case all necessary pieces are in. Without XMIR you are not able to test X-applications and you will need MIR support patches for GTK/QT to test applications which make use of previous mentioned toolkits - all this patches are not available yet. Looking at wayland the support patches are already in QT and GTK but as long Gnome is not ported to use Wayland you can test only some Gnome applications.

    http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...tem&px=MTMzNjM
    https://live.gnome.org/Wayland

for the moment Wayland is far ahead due to very good engineering work of the X developers as they have done the ground work in the past. I think some people have to realize that you can not patch and port all this software projects overnights and say mission accomplished in 6 months. For the moment X11 is good enough and if MIR do not take off there is wayland which is the scheduled successor of X11. Upstream developers and project maintainers are aware of this and do their best so that this can happen.
