Hi! First of all thank your for this guide!
I only have one problem..
When I switch the gpu I get the following error:
PowerXpress info: Diagnostic output from /usr/lib64/fglrx/switchlibglx:
update-alternatives: Warning: /etc/OpenCL/vendors/amdocl32.icd skipped because /usr/lib/fglrx/etc/OpenCL/vendors/amdocl32.icd (link group x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf) does not exist.
Any idea how to fix this?
Is this Method Works Perfectly on 12.04 Kernel-PAE ..?
i've just have fresh installed of 12.04 on my Notebook.
wondered if this method doesnt mess-up with the system
like what i've experienced on 11.10-Oneiric. that I
always get my VGA Not-Working after PAE installed.
Thanks so much

HP Pavillion G6 1356el, Intel HD 3000, AMD 7450M*, HDMI Intel/AMD: not tested/not tested, VGA Intel/AMD: not tested/not tested
*It is a 7450M but it's detected as a 6400 under Ubuntu (don't know why, still everything seems to work fine)
Will update as soon as I can do a proper battery test.
Big thanks!

Have Tried it and followed your instructions and also here http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...xorg.conf_file still got the same Problem. it boot with saying "Low Graphics" then to Terminal. i tried also the step 2 on the terminal using nano editor. still no luck. My machine is HP Pavillion G6 1045SX Core i5 AMD 6470M hybrid.
i also did uninstall the drivers and update my machine via Software Update and on terminal. and Tried to do it again, and still don't work.
any idea.?
What-oh, what-oh!!
First of all, let me compliment you on that tutorial of yours, great stuff.
However, if i may ask you an advice:
I'm using an ACER aspire timeline X 5820 TG with Ubuntu first installed as 11.04, and then upgraded to 12.04 .
The problem was that, with fglrx installed, any program looking for OPENGL would exit saying:lspci |grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 18)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Robson CE [AMD Radeon HD 6300 Series] (rev ff)
Therefore, I looked for a solution via...loading libGL.so.1:
Calling SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO)...
SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO) passed.
Initializing OpenGL display
...setting mode 3: 640 480
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13Though I found out that the radeon card was blacklisted but fglrx wasn't.HTML Code:http://askubuntu.com/questions/81344/how-to-fix-error-with-ati-driver-error-of-failed-request
Still I tried to reinstall completely fglrx, bymore /etc/modprobe.d/fglrx.conf
# This file was installed by fglrx
# Do not edit this file manually
blacklist radeon
alias fglrx fglrx
alias radeon off
alias lbm-radeon offIt still wouldn't work. Now coming to the particular problem, while trying your solution, I found that, while accomplishing the first step installing-the-fglrx*.deb-part, the following problem was happening:sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh
sudo apt-get remove --purge xorg-driver-fglrx fglrx*
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri fglrx
And so this is where it finally caught up with me:sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb

So feeling like I shoot myself in the foot big time, I'm humbly asking you what should I do in order to repair those broken links, and try your solution with my particular configuration./usr/lib/pxpress/ld.so.conf
/usr/bin/amdupdaterandrconfig
/usr/lib/pxpress/alt_ld.so.conf
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/ld.so.conf

I do thank you very much in advance for an kind of answer you might give me(or anyone else for that matter).
Cheers

I got the above fix working properly on my HP DV6 6121tx, Mint 13.
But one thing I'm noticing, on integrated graphics, if I plug my laptop to the charger, it starts to heat up in the area where it heated up if I ran it on discrete graphics. Using the command in OP's post, I checked which GPU I was running. It still said integrated, but I'm skeptical about why it's getting heated so much.
