I'll post this here as a few people seemed to like the things I was doing with album art in conky.
I noticed that using the standard method of getting the album art in conky with:

Obviously caused the image to be copied every single update, typically once a second. This didn't seem ideal so I thought I would farm out the job to a script, it could check if the file really needed to be copied and then do it. Because we are only copying it once every few minutes (if you shuffle albums) or each 45mins or so, we can do more things. In the example I apply a sepia effect, but you could rotate, transform, blur or anything.
