Welcome SteamOS.

I'm totally stoked, almost giddy. I can just feel Microsoft succumbing to its slow demise.

Game corporations will begin developing for Linux, and Linux will become more popular as gamers begin flooding in. Since the pace of Linux development is quicker than Windows', eventually Linux will simply surpass Windows. It is correct that the SteamOS does not directly spell death for Windows nor Microsoft, but it's a step closer.
No, no they won't and no it won't. There is absolutely no reason to spend money to port anything to linux when the SteamBox can stream from the Windows client.
 Developers need stable ABIs and APIs to develop against, that "quick development pace" is the problem.Since the pace of Linux development is quicker than Windows', eventually Linux will simply surpass Windows.
An increasingly number of games appearing on Steam have a linux version, have you checked lately. As a matter of fact, Valve just announced that many AAA titles will arrive on SteamOS / Steam for Linux soon; full announcement in a few days.
Oh that old myth again... I'm not even gonna make the effort to respond...
