ocenaudio is indeed very fine but a sweet midget to audacity's capabilities
just a handful of filters but many formats
pretty good all in all might be what you wish for here
install 64 deb went swimmingly on 12.04

Audacity alternatives for Linux? Audacity is the only audio swiss army-knife not just for Linux but Win as well. You might try to find something to replace this wondrous little beast but don't like chances. One of the reasons it's so popular among hobbyists and pros alike is its ease of use, flexibility and power.
If you do want to fix, post those errors. If not, cheers and good luck with it all.
