Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

I'm confused (as normal) but I thought compwiz was working on anew script? Yet the date on the first post is still from July. has it been updated?

I'm dubious, since I totally wacked my install running the old install (yeah, the scrip is probably changed). I just want to be sure the script has been updated.

BTW, a funny think happened on the way. Edgy seems to find my wireless card, assigns the net work id and key (I still have to tell it "open") and enable the card, but the light never turns on. I want to try nbound's instructions, but I am hesitant.

As an aside, does this work with Kubuntu as well?

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

ya, he's made a new script, and updated the top post.

    I had the same problem--
ndiswrapper doesnt seem to do the trick in 6.10
but the native driver (bcm43xx) works if you have the right firmware.

If you are running the new ubuntu 6.10, and 64 bits, you might want to check out my last post, just above yours.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

OK, I will try that. It deffinatly didn't work with 17-10, as the scrip says you are not running 17-7 and reboot.....

Ah well, something to do tomorrow.

Thanks aroswald1977, I confirmed that your method works.

I got my card working on 64 bit Dapper using compwiz18's script, but couldn't get it to work via the same means after upgrading to Edgy (apparently due to having the 2.6.17-10 kernel). Followed the steps in your post and it's working now.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Yes thank you for posting.
i already had it working earlier on.
and i wanted to write an HOW TO myself.

as for the people that don't have it working yet i suggest you try the other thread here

this is for other broadcom chipsets,

but if you have a Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) 4318

then follow that guide and after that use the link for ndiswrapper at the bottom of the post(also here)

if you can't get it working PM me

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Hello folks:

New to Linux, new to Ubuntu, have Ubuntu 6.06 loaded on a dv8000, with the Broadcomm 4318 wireless, ATI 200M video. and of course....I haven't gotten my wireless to work yet. I tried the Bcm43xx driver...failed. Now I am working NDISWrapper. Can someone please point me to the most current/best how-to to bring this up. I do believe it can be made to work. I am working with wifi-radar and I have network-manager and network-manager-gnome packages loaded. Incidentally my network icon at top right shows "No network connection" even though I am connect via cable to my router att. Somethin just ain't right, more than likely me, can anyone help?

    Many thanx.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards - dv8000

    toolbelt,

I wrote a difinitive how to for 6.06 with DV8210us. Go to www.myspace.com/dergoat and read my blog. I still have the old scrips and files on a flash drive if you need them. Read my blog for some good pointers, but watch this thread and when I get it all figured out for 6.10 I will post a new how to.

Right now I am going to wipe Ubuntu because a script I tried on another thread didn't work. Unfourtunately I don't know enought about Ubuntu to undo my mistakes. Good thing it loads in about 15 minutes.

Re: HOWTO/SCRIPT: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

I have edgy and amd-64. Can someone please tell me how to get kernel 2.6.17-7... That kernel is not in grub because edgy amd-64m seems to have been released with 2.6.17.10. I don't have it anyway. How do I force it to install this kernel?

I've spent two days on this, and the only thing left that I haven't tried is this .

    Please help.

    DasGoat:

Back again. Here is my situation a bit more accurately....the kernel I installed originall was the one from the PC disk vice the 64-bit PC. Apparently I am working on 32-bit ubuntu, I am using an AMD Turion 64 processor--however the 64-bit live CD would not work when I tried it. I
the latest software updates for the 32-bit package. I loaded NDISWrapper the way your page instructs. lsmod shows that bcm43xx is not loaded and ndiswrapper is loaded.

My network monitor shows packets sent, but not received. I tried deactivating my wired network, however doesnt change the situation. There have been multiple restarts of the system in my troublshooting process. My gut says I am really close to having this working. Any suggestions?

If you download and compile your own 2.6.18.1 kernel from kernel.org, it works great

But yes, the 2.6.17-10 generic kernel is horrible, doesn't work for 64bit people.
