    @ Pat

Wow, thank you very much for that detailed report.
Although the different bios versions might still be a issue and possible sources of dissimilarities of our systems, this is exactly what i asked for.
I will give the 32bit version a try on the weekend, as i'm away on a summerschool in the moment and can't risk running into any unbootable system situation again.

Again, thanks a lot for your efforts - i'll report back when its done!

    Bye, Nix

    Nixblicker,

I think you right , it's possibly a bios or controller version issue, may be the disk firmware too ...

A new bios or Ubuntu release can solve this issue.

    Regards.
    Pat.

    Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

    Hi,
thanks for the help Pat. I am afraid I haven´t updated to the latest BIOS, I understand that the file is "BIOS_Acer_1.10_A_AS3410 AS3810.zip" on the ACER website. Is it possible to update from the LiveUSB? how would the process be? (I am gonna check in http://www.netbooktech.com/tag/acer-...-instructions/)

Right after that I will try to install Ubuntu using Unetbootbin.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Jaime,

    Your bios file BIOS_Acer_1.10_A_AS3410 AS3810.zip look's good for a 3810T,
and yes you can update from a live USB, you have the response from norkakn here

Except use the proper BIOS update. Make sure to select "Live CD Only"

    Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

Alright, now I am writing from the Ubuntu 9.10 in the 3810t.

    The steps taken are:
1.) Make a backup of the Vista partitions (in case everything works fine in the future).
    2.) Install last acer BIOS.
3.) Install Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 5 from Usb using Unetbootbin
4.) Change to IDE mode on the BIOS. (otherwise it takes ages to boot, IF it boots at all)

Even though, I still have some unresolved problems:
    No audio.
No right click on touch pad.
    Problems with Suspend.
No extensions on firefox (Ubuntu 9.10 issue).

Still, thanks for the help, since at least now I have something running on the laptop

Anyone got any multitouch features to work, like two finger scrolling and right click? Or three finger middle click?

    Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

    Hi,

I also just got this laptop last week... just because I can't wait to 9.10, I installed 9.04 and do this following instructions :

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes

to solve wired LAN issue and it works like a charm.
but, when I boot 2.6.30 kernel to solve reboot and shut down issue, the wired LAN isn't detected.

and when I tried to re-install the LAN driver, I got this error :

    robson@robson-laptop:~/Desktop/src$ make
    make -C /lib/modules/2.6.30-020630-generic/build SUBDIRS=/home/robson/Desktop/src modules

    and this...

    robson@robson-laptop:~/Desktop/src$ sudo make install
    [sudo] password for robson:

    Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

    Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has managed to call with SKYPE.
The audio works fine, but the laptop's microphone doesn't. (I have a 3810t)
I have been playing a bit with "pavumeter" and "pavucontrol" but no success.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

Just got a 3810T-6415 and used a usb stick to try Ubuntu 9.04 i386 with the live CD. I was surprised by how well it worked. The wlan driver was detected correctly as was my resolution. I did notice a problem with Suspend/Resume. It suspends fine, but upon resuming, it shuts down straight away.

Don't really have time to install it yet, but will keep an eye on this thread and see how people get it to work.
