Thunderbird not fetching all inbox messages

I have configured thunderbird (version 17) in Ubuntu 12.04 to use with my gmail account but the inbox folder only shows messages up to November 2011. Every time i click "get mail" it fetches about 5 days worth of email messages, so if I want to get thunderbird up to speed I have to repeat this process numerous times. Why doesn't just retrieve all messages in my gmail inbox at once and is there a way to correct this?

I believe that is a setting you can change. (That is a useful setting though if you have download limits on you internet and don't want to download gigbytes of email )

also, if you set it up as a pop3 it will download it on your computer, if you set it as imap it will show the remote folder...

I have looked through the Preferences and Account Settings and found nothing that will let me import all inbox messages

did you set it up as POP3 or IMAP?

Try going to account settings>Synchronisation & Storage>

then choose synchronise all messages regardless of age

Gmail works better with IMAP in my opinion or does for me, but i use IMAP for all my accounts, and also try the option I posted above

That's strange. The Synchronization & Storage option does not appear for the account in question, but it does appear for the other two accounts I have set up. Could it be because this acount is set as Pop? The others are set up as imap.

mmm quite possibly, I have no POP accounts to check, I suspect with the way that IMAP works that this may be a IMAP only option possibly.

Awesome, I just changed the configuration to IMAP and it work without a problem. Thanks!
