HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Ok, So i just put ntfs-3g before ntfs.
Test it, and it seams to work.
Tell me how it works for you. If it's ok, i'll put in the repo.

Hi, I'm running the ntfs-3g on Edgy:
> deb http://givre.cabspace.com/ubuntu/ edgy main

Kernel is:

fuse is:

I just tried using Thunderbird with a profile and Lightning calendar both created under Windows. Tb itself was fine but Lightning caused two Talkbacks and resulted in a folder that was unreadable when I switched back to Windows. Chkdsk found five errors on the drive and fixed them.

Any ideas what I can do to supply more helpful info?

Givré: Yesterday i rolled back my fstab backup and made the changes again, this time invoking fstab with gksu instead of sudo. it worked, and as of today it hasn't failed. I'll pm you if i run into trouble again. Thank you very much for your help!

Most chkdsk errors refer to Microsoft NTFS bugs. For example here are some (except the last one), but there are __MUCH__ more:

If you see anything other, then please send the chkdsk output according to

What OS do you use? This permission problem can happen with Vista but it's unheard with others. Well, unless you created file names what Windows doesn't like very much and needs special utilities to access.

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and all updates. The filename thing could be it...

Lightning is the calendar plugin for Mozilla Thunderbird. Talkbacks are Mozilla's way of collecting application failure events. They're publicly viewable. The talkback in question isn't very illuminating:
