    Yeah I was the last one to write in that thread. Too bad HP won't let us change the Bios settings for this. Gonna have to keep watching movies on my TV with W7, oh well.

    Have any of you updated to 10.10? cause I saw somewhere that we need to wait for the catalyst driver 10.10 to come out due to lack of support of the new x.org 1.9

    I am using 10.10 with no problems at all (well, obviously with the 4200...).

    I am using the ati proprietary drivers supplied by the distro.

    I tried to go to 10.10 a couple of days ago, and all I got was a black screen. I didn't feel like messing with it, so I just abandoned that idea. I may try to install 64 sometime this weekend though.

    I was using the 4200 so not the same issue.

    I do remember with the HDMI audio I had to open pulse audio and unmute the HDMI audio connection.

    You can also try installing (if its not already) alsa.

    and in the terminal type alsamixer

    or alsamixer -c 1 and make sure the device is not muted

    Does this allow us to use the hdmi output for video? Will give it a try this weekend as I'm out of town.

    With the 64-bit version works fine

    I tried the 32-bit & the 64-bit version. 32 loads from the CD straight to a black screen. 64 actually goes through the entire install process, and then upon reboot I get a black screen. I'll mess with it some other time. I've got too many other things going on right now.

    Re: ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5650/4200

    I have the same issue with a dv7-4045ea (ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 Graphics) running Ubuntu 10.10. If I start the laptop in recovery mode and run
    Code:
    aticonfig --lsa
    I get

    Code:
    * 0. 01:05.0 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
      1. 02:00.0 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series

    * - Default adapter
    However, when I try to use the Radeon 5650 I get the following

    Code:

    As you can see it doesn't think the 5650 is an original ATI card, what can we do to get this fixed, is it an ATI problem or an HP thing?

    Re: ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5650/4200

    Switchable graphics just aren't supported well on Linux right now. There's not much you can do about it if you can't disable the integrated video in BIOS (and IIRC someone got a reply from HP that they have no plans to support that).
    Warning: I sometimes lack patience. Don't take it personally.
