Make pulseaudio stream output permanent?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with Pulseaudio. Using Pulseaudio Volume Control you can set an audio stream (music player for instance) to a specific output device. For instance I want my music player to play SPDIF, even though my default device is another sound card/device.

Now, this setting works great, except it isn't permanent. Everytime I start the program I have to set the stream to the correct output. The question is simple - is it possible to make the setting permanent?

EDIT: Apparently, it is working that way (permanent). Hasty conclusions.
