Maybe reboot and start hitting 'Esc' right away? Might be fast enough to open grub.
Let us know if that works. If not, I think you can open a terminal in the LiveCD and you have to change the permissions on the grub file before editing it. Try 'sudo' or 'gksudo' when opening the grub file/folder.

You have to hit the shift key while booting, right after CMOS loads to get into Grub2

Well...poo...
I know there is a way to reinstall grub via the LiveCD.
Here it is. Try this - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...tallingWindows

I believe that with GRUB2, since in the situation where there is only one OS installed on the machine, it automatically boots into that OS without showing a menu, you hold down the Shift key when booting to force it to show a menu.
Also, make sure you do NOT edit the grub.cfg file; instead, you can install startup-manager if you want a GUI for editing defaults easily.
Ubuntu 17.04 Mate, Mint 18.1 Mate; MS Win 8.1, MS Win10 Pro.
