Installing Ubuntu 10.04 and getting Blank Screen on Boot - Newb needs help

I'm very new to this. I haven't even used Ubuntu and I am trying to install it for the first time.

I created a CD after downloading the ISO and every time I boot with it this is what happens:

1) Loads the CD
2) At the bottom of the screen there are 2 symbols with a dash in between them
3) Then I see the Ubuntu logo in the middle with the changing dots (white and orange) below it.
4) Blank screen

This is my laptop:
HP Pavilion dm4-1060us
Intel® Core™ i5-430M Processor
4GB DDR3 RAM ( 2 - 2GB SO-DIMM Memory Modules )
Intel® HD Graphics

Current OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I plan on having dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows.


I know there are many threads on the forums and I goggled for a while, but all the workarounds and solutions were for people who currently had Ubuntu and were upgrading so they had access to the command prompt to run the linux commands.

Again I'm a total newb so I really have no idea what to do.

Also, I have no idea if I can do any of these workarounds here, because they all seem to be for users already with ubuntu

Ignore what I said. It works now.

The problem was that it hangs on a blank screen for a while and then it loads, but you can barely see it. I had to turn up the brightness all the way.
