I have this problem too. Here is a bug report I am watching: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ev/+bug/562092

In my case, it is a problem with my internal dvd burner drives failing to mount. They work under windows and PClinuxOS, and as a boot device, but not within a normal Ubuntu session. This does not effect my usb mounted external dvd burner though.

Re: 10.04 will mount CDROM but not DVD

I have given up. After a couple of weeks trying to get 10.4 to work, I have to revert back to 9.10.

I have tried the default install disk for 386 machines, the alternative disk, installing into 9.10 and upgrading to 10.4, the werks. I get various failures from grub fails to load, DVD fails to mount if I can get the system to run 10.4, and a slew of problems inbetween. Too many to list.

After flawless performance going back 3 years and upgrades, 9.10 was messy, but 10.4 just fell apart in my hands. Sorry to say it, and I know this is not at all easy stuff to manage, but Ubuntu has gone from a fantastic experience to become a worse and worse experience. I am going back to 9.10 and may have to consider going to a different build because this has become pretty untenable. I never thought I would say that... but 10.4, after prior version running so well, is not at all pretty.

Big sigh. Ubuntu is on the cusp of losing a big fan.

Question Re: 10.04 will mount CDROM but not DVD

For me, the dvd's won't play.
All I get is a blank white image even though the sound works fine... what to do...? I sure would like to be able to fix this...

Other than that, I have NO PROBLEMS with v10.04 - all went fine and I appreciate this version.
