Hi

I just did a fresh install of 10.04 on an old-ish laptop that previously had a semi-working ubuntu 9.10 (wireless wasnt working, neither was headphone port amonst some other minor issues)

The default resolution is huge (1600X1200) so i cant see much of the screen when the actual screen itself is 1024X800 I can't seem to be able to change the display to something useful.

I have no xorg.conf in /etc/X11/

If I use the GUI to change res then it looks like this:

I have scoured google's suggestions, this forums suggestions etc please help!
