John, it looks like your most recent kernel patch will enable the chipset, and it will connect to a unsecured network when using the buffalo wli-uc-gn card. But it will not connect to a WPA enabled router, it will just time out and try again when you use the network management application. I've downloaded the most current kernel image that you've provided with the built in support. Any ideas why it would do that. Also in your latest patch to the kernel the annoying "#" mark every 5 sec is still there. It's also there for the lucid release of the patch, so it's now upstream.

I have been using this solution successfully with WPA, but I tried it with WEP and it fails.

I don't think I need to disable the WPA stuff I enabled for it to work with WEP as well.

Did anyone else have issues getting this working with WEP?

I can't even get it to work with WPA, how did you get it to work with WPA and what card do you actually have.

It's an EDUP Ralink Wireless 2070 on USB.

The way I got it to work was by following the instructions in this thread exactly, and not deviating. Sometimes the hints came from posts later on in the thread from other folks. I wrote down a log of what I tried as I did it, and can post it if you want, but basically it just always came back to reading the steps in this thread and doing them as suggested.

Unfortunately, nobody has posted any clues as to why WEP might be having issues yet.

My thanks again to the posters in this thread.

I can connect successfully to WPA, but am having problems connecting via WEP and also connecting to an unsecured network.

When I try to connect to a network, it does not give me the option to choose no security, only between WEP and WPA. This occurs at: System->administration->network->network settings->wireless connections->properties->ra0, when you click off the roaming checkbox.

    Any help greatly appreciated.
