Thread: Wiki massive deletion

    Wiki massive deletion

Somebody, without saying anything to us, has deleted (not moved) a lot of wiki pages for laptop testing and setup guide. A lot of people were working hardly to document as best as possible each laptop computer to configure Ubuntu GNU/Linux.

Please, recover that community documentation, made to help installing Ubuntu and to help choicing a laptop to buy.

Here follows a list with only a few of the lost pages:

    Re: Wiki massive deletion

Just curious, but don't wiki's usually have the ability to log who made what changes? as well as have the ability to load a previous revision? Were the deleted pages not frequently backed up in some way?

Might be worth asking someone on the documentation team

I don't find the option to see the page history. The lost pages appear as if never existed.

    Re: Wiki massive deletion

    They are not lost.
    I'm moving them to LaptopTestingTeam/Old
    (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Old) because it's a project
close in 2005 and now there is a new community driven project active
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Laptop) as you can see at
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam

I tried to move all pages together the the new place but the server
gave me a proxy error every time I tried. So I'm doing this work page
    by page.
If you want to give a hand you are welcome.

    Regards.
    Sergio.

    Breaking work on progress

Some people may consider that project was closed, but some other people (as us) were still documenting laptops until the hours you begun to move pages.

A good thing could be to redirect old URLs instead of make disappear any content. I cannot assume the organization of the wiki, but I'm focused on the tests and solutions with our own template.

In the new-old page you referred, I find sheets as AspireOneA150 but don't find other cases as Aspire1363WLMi or Aspire5050. What is happening?

And an important point for me at this moment: in the last weekend I was working in the "Airis200", but the page I was writing has disappeared before completing. I have this laptop on the table; what do I whith this? Begin again the wiki page?

It would be nice if you join us in the new project.

    Contents are not lost.

    I'm moving pages from
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/pages....
    to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Old/pages...

You will find old Laptop pages at
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestin...CompaqEvoN410c (for example)

There is still a lot of work to do

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestin...AcerAspire5050
and it will be moved on

    Re: Wiki massive deletion

Forgot to mention that old pages will still be reachable via
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Old

but if you want to make some report it would be better to do it using testcases of the new project.

    Work broken

And this one (the first on the reported list) ?
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestin...Aspire1363WLMi

We were maintaining the original addresses of our sheets on this page:
    http://wiki.lapipaplena.org/index.ph...dors_portatils

A great part of our work is linked from this page, were you can see for example the recent "Airis 200" case.

I don't know where it is.
I think that wiki lost that page when I tried to move all pages together and it gave me the proxy error.

But you can find your page in google cache anyway:
    http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=...5aa4278f68e4a4
    Click on "cached"

It's better you check all of your pages having a look at google cache if something have been lost ASAP.

The main problem is that LaptopTestingTeam was a Canonical project about laptops given by Canonical itself and that ended in 2005.
During the time other people started putting reports by themselves without an active project underneath and not documenting that as well.
