Hey,
This is what i did to change the resolution.
First run "sudo hwinfo --framebuffer" it's in hexadecimal and u convert it to decimal for the resolution you want. Install hwinfo if necessary.
Second open the file /etc/default/grub so you can edit it, and then you edit the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=" vga=795" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=" vga=<the number you found in the first step>"
Third run "sudo update-grub2" and reboot, you should now have a small writing on your virtual console, otherwise you will have a huge writing, if so repeat 1 - 3 step and choose a different resolution.
WARNING if you read about this another place and thought you could write vga=ask, your dead wrong and will lead to YOU jumping up and down on the keyboard so you can enter the grub bootup screen and edit grub from there
BTW tell me if it worked for you
PS: the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=" vga=795" might have said GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
