Ubuntu CD Image Source and Build System?

I'd like to study the process by which the ubuntu cd images:

ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso
ubuntu-9.10-server-amd64.iso
etc

are built. Is the build script and source tree that is used to produce these open source? Is it available for downloaded from somewhere?

I am aware that the isos can be mounted, modified and repacked (and have done this) - but I would like to reproduce a build of these from source if this is possible. Of particular interest is the content of initrd.gz.

initrd is generated by mkinitramfs

the cd is powered by casper + a copy of ubuntu that was installed onto the disk

That doesn't answer my question sorry. I want to know if the master build script that is used to build the ubuntu cd images is publically available and if so where I can download it from. I am not asking about which tools that this build script calls (mkisofs, mkinitramfs, etc, etc), or for a description of the architecture of the CD.
