I am aware that the isos can be mounted, modified and repacked (and have done this) - but I would like to reproduce a build of these from source if this is possible. Of particular interest is the content of initrd.gz.

initrd is generated by mkinitramfs
the cd is powered by casper + a copy of ubuntu that was installed onto the disk
