When do you prefer REVU Days to happen?

NOTE: Please only vote if you are an Ubuntu Developer or Contributor and you plan to participate with REVU Days.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the new REVU Coordinator I am responsible for ensuring the efficient usage and processing of REVU to make it the best experience possible for everyone.

As part of this, I'm going to revive the REVU Days, which will start happening again once the development cycle for Jaunty (Ubuntu 9.04) starts, and I'm opening this thread so that all people interested on them can let me know which day you would prefer them to happen.

If you want to tell me anything else about how you think the REVU experience could be improved you can also do so right here, or contact me either at rainct[at]ubuntu.com or on IRC (RainCT @ irc.freenode.net).

    What is REVU?

REVU is a website where contributors can upload new packages they've created for Ubuntu Developers to review and comment on them. Once all outstanding issues have been addressed and two Ubuntu Developers are happy with the package, it is upload to the repositories of the current development version of Ubuntu.

    What are REVU Days?

The so called REVU Days are weekly events which span from the moment when somewhere on the world the elected weekday starts until it has ended everywhere. During this day many Ubuntu Developers are likely to give special importance on review packages from REVU, and Contributors who want to get their stuff reviewed are highly encouraged to be available on #ubuntu-motu (at irc.freenode.net) so that reviewers can easily contact them about any problem.

Re: When do you prefer REVU Days to happen?

I personally feel that having REVU Days weekly is a mistake. By making them a weekly event, you are making them less special than if they occurred less frequently. This might lead to less participation from Developers. That is why I think that you should make REVU Days every 2/3/4 weeks instead of every week.

As for the day that REVU Days should occur on, my first choice would be Friday. This is because it is right before the weekend. During the week, most people are busy with work. During the weekend, people are busy with their social lives. By placing it on a Friday, you are putting it right between the time for work and the time for socializing. This should enable a large number of Developers to participate. Also, by placing it on a Friday, Developers can stay up late working on reviewing packages, without having to worry about being tired for work/school the next day.

This is just my opinion, but I hope you take it into consideration.

And for anyone else who might be reading this, remember, you don't need to wait for REVU Day to review packages on REVU. You can review packages 24/7 365 days a year.

I want to thank you all, and especially nhandler, for your feedback! I think that Friday is the best, for the reasons that nhandler exposed, so let's try with Fridays .

About making REVU Days less frequent, I've consulted that with some other people and I disagree. There are only a few months during which people can focus on REVU so we should use them as much as possible.
