VLC no sound 4 WMV

Hello

Has anyone else had any issues with playing WMV files?

Form my searches in here VLC seems to be the preferred program. The files do play and there are no error messages there is just no sound.

My general sound setup is fine other sound file play just fine and with in VLC/SETTINGS/PREFERENCES/AUDIO/OUTPUT MODES/ADVANCED I have tried ALSA Audio Output but still there is no sound?

Any suggestions?
I'll even try another player?
At the moment I have installed VLC, MPLAYER, and BMPx!

I'm about ready to give up on this!!!!!!!!!!

I have been trying to get MPLAYER now to run WMV but what I get is this:

Cannot find codex for audio format OxA

I can't believe Ubuntu won't play WMV.
Other sound files seem to play fine?

Oh! My sound card is a SBlive and I have installed through Package Manager:

Commit Log for Sat Sep 27 15:09:55 2008

Installed the following packages:
non-free-codecs (1.1)
w32codecs (20071007-0medibuntu2)

Please if anyone need more info on this just let me know.

Here is some info:

I did as you suggested and I found some WMV files that I had downloaded about a year ago.

These older WMV files worked fine.
The Properties on the files looked the same except for the AUDIO/VIDEO TAB:

= Older WMV Audio/Video Tab = (worked)
General: SAME

Video:
Dimensions: 320x240
Codex: Microsoft Windows Media 8
Framerate: 25 frames per second
Bitrate: NA

Audio:
Codex: WMA Version 8
Channels: Stereo
Sample Rate: 44100 Hz
Bitrate: NA


= LATEST WMV Audio/Video Tab = (will NOT work)
General: SAME

Video:
Dimensions: 800x600
Codex: Microsoft Windows Media 9
Framerate: 25 frames per second
Bitrate: NA

Audio:
Codex: Windows Media Audio Speech
Channels: 0 Channels
Sample Rate: NA
Bitrate: NA

It looks like that this might be a version issue?

Any suggestions?
