Hi all. I have previously installed Ubuntu on another system and was so impressed went out and brought a new computer for the kids for college. Installing Ubuntu on this one failed - video during boot is fine, but get to splash/desktop and it goes crazy. I have installed XP on same machine and video is fine. I love Ubuntu and would really like to sort it.

On this Asus mb the video is onboard, but I also tried an old and trusty PCI Cirrus video card, and that did not work properly either - very weird

If anyone can help please suggest. I have a few clues, but new to Ubuntu/Linux, but having spent a day on this problem already quite desperate!
