Hmm...I apologize I'm not an expert on this. But apparently AIGLX isn't working for you (when it should by default). Intel's drivers are open-source so you don't have to put any additional effort (meaning it's installed already). A couple of questions...

You say you managed to install Compiz-Fusion...Did you follow some sort of guide? Or take any extra steps, because CF is installed on Hardy by default.

Did you mess with the xorg.conf in any way? Or did you perform any updates today?
