KnetworkManager Won't List PPTP VPN Type

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 and KUbuntu 7.10. KNetworkManager has everything needed to create a pptp tunnel. From right-clicking KNetworkManager --> options --> configure vpn shows up. If I click on that all that displays is ppp, and I cannot create a name. A message says ppp is not a configured service; check your installation.

Any ideas what is wrong or if there is a workaround?

    I've posted a bug

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/231170

The Ubuntu 7.10 setup works fine. Both are laptops and the hardware is different.
