I belive alot of people have this problem, When you have multiple applications trying to use sound, it doesn't work.
I have to close firefox before i can play games, alot of the time i have to restart X to get what ever application is holding the sound to let it go.
I can't listen to music in totem or VLC while playing games (Games being *source* games in wine)
It's really irritating to say the least. Is there a fix for this?

fixed by doing...
killall pulseaudio
system > preferences > sound
change all to alsa.
