    question about Grub.

So, say I currently have a partition with a 64bit Ubuntu install on it, which is totally messed up. And I want to install x86 Kubuntu on that partition instead.

If I go through the installation and just overwrite that partition, will that totally screw up my bootloader?

Also, if anyone has any experience on it... how smooth is compiz on Kubuntu compared to the Gnome environment of Ubuntu?

Yes, by default, grub will be restored and you'll be OK.

As for compiz on kubuntu, I really don't know, because they use their own compisiting manager (kwin). Last I checked it wasn't exactly on par with compiz though, sadly.
