    Gutsy Community Theme--Key Words Poll

Hey forum dwellers! I'm here to ask some of you to contribute to a poll on a few key words, for a community theme. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/CommunityTheme . We've decided on an interesting way to design a concept. I've produced up with a few words that represent some of the aspects of ubuntu. Its some I've come up with, and some taken from some polling of a few Ubuntu irc channels. Anyways--we have a poll set up for these key words, and we plan to combine the two most popular into a single concept that we will build upon for this release. The poll is here, and should open up relatively soon: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-art/+p...ity-theme-poll . It'll close 72 hours after its opened, hopefully this is enough for most of you to catch this and take a vote. This will be a secret poll--nobody will know who has voted what.

We hope to generate a few palettes from this, which will also be voted upon in the future. Thanks for reading this--and start voting!

For the sake of transparency--I'll also post the polls contents here.

For a community theme, we'd like to choose some formative words for the yet untitled project. We hope to design around the words - possibly with a motif as a result - for a central theme. Please be aware that our plan is to forge the the two most voted words into a single concept. After the words are chosen, we hope to vote upon a palette that works to support the motivating words.

    * Choice: The community theme should have choice as a central thematic. (active)
    * Collaboration: The community theme should have collaboration as a central thematic. (active)
    * Contribution: The community theme should have contribution as a central thematic. (active)
    * Creation: The community theme should have creation (non Biblical) as a central thematic. (active)
    * Friendship: The community theme should have friendship as a central thematic. (active)
    * Progress: The community theme should have progress as a central thematic. (active)

I cannot stress this enough -

For those of you that wish to see a healthy and viable Ubuntu art / design community, the time to step up is now.

Creating anything of any quality will take time and commitment to a project. It also requires everyone to contribute on some level as many hands make for light work. Unfortunately, with our current state, many hands make for no work.

Whether or not you disagree with the ideals is part and parcel of pushing a project like this along. Further, there are many times in creative projects where you might fundamentally disagree with a flavor or direction but are (for either career reasons or otherwise) forced to continue along them.

Consider this a great chance to get your ideas in early and, hopefully, see an interesting project develop out of it.

    Sincerely,
    TJS

PS: I know from personal experience that the community at large has a wealth of talent available. We have few excuses. Effort mode: ON.

I don't get what we're voting for, what difference will it make if the theme is based on "Collaboration" or "Creation"?

Also, there's no easy way to contribute directly to the Ubuntu art, isn't it still being done by one person?

It makes a huge difference, in terms of our base concept, how we will work and what will stem from it. It will start as a base for a motif, a mood, a message. We will generate palettes. mockups, and so forth from there. As detailed in the wiki page--this is a community effort outside of the official artwork direction.

Interesting, how do I sign up? Or do people just randomly submit things to the wiki for comment once the base theme/concept is agreed upon?

Yes--the wiki is a way to contribute--but you should start with joining the ubuntu art launchpad team (if you haven't already). These discussions actually start on the mailing list--thats the best way to give input. Otherwise-- hang out in #ubuntu-artwork on freenode.

btw: Most of my coordination thus far has happened on irc.

I've signed up for the mailing list for a few months, but so far all I've gotten is bug reports. I'll check out the IRC though

Bug reports come from the launchpad team--not the mailing list. The mailing list can be found here https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art .
