Re: How to install samba 4 as an active directory domain controller

    Hi ,

Sorry, I was a little busy these days. I will help you with the script

You have to change the values in the two scripts according to your needs.

In the second script, the last Variable is SHARE, I used it because my script files were on a windows share, I mounted with the mount command but you don't need to do this.

you just have to put the 3 files somewhere in a folder on your system.
Let's say you create a /SCRIPT folder and put the files inside
then the share value will be :

    SHARE=/SCRIPT/

the Samba4.conf file is the Upstart instructions for samba to start at boot. so put it in your folder along with the script files

Be shure to reboot before you execute samba4-2.sh

If you need any help, feel free to add me to your Skype contacts, I'll be glad to helplike I did with JnPson. (you can send me a message via skype from the forum)

Re: How to install samba 4 as an active directory domain controller

I'm believe I should be able to view samba logs using RSAT(Event Viewer). I can't remember the commands needed in Samba smb.conf. Anyone?

    Edit:

Found this https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Event_Logging but I believe it may be over my head.

    Hi,

Sorry my friend, I was so busy creating my company, that I couldn't find a single second to log on the forum.

Probably what you are looking for: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Event_Logging

Anyway, It won't relay malfunction or windows-like event as those rely on WMI and a set of DLLs.

I believe their only purpose is to relay custom created events.

    Edit: Over your head?

The Samba Wiki was updated with a Sysvol replication how to. Seems to be working so far on all 4 of my DC's. This was a big deal in my environment.

Should this process be any different on Ubuntu 13.04?

Re: How to install samba 4 as an active directory domain controller

It does. I was using the desktop version which has samba preinstalled. I had to hack /etc/init/smbd.conf (thats off the top of my head, it might not be the right file) to start the version I built instead of the default one. The service command doesn't seem to like it but it starts on boot and thats all I care about.

Edit: I've successfully joined the domain with another computer but the admin tools refuse to work. Any ideas?
