Question Download Speeds 700kb/sec out of 15MB/sec

(EDIT: THREAD IS KINDA SOLVED IN WIERD WAY)
it does appear as tech has told me that I have wrong drivers anyway however half of my speed came back from SIMPLY disabling/removing the firefox addon of anonymox. apparently it limits your speed if you dont buy the full version somehow. I found this out from researchin after I read that someone else had their internet speed reduced as well while using it. My speed was a drastic change though from 7-10MB/sec down to 700kb so if you use this maybe test your speed at www.testmy.net to find out. something as simple as though got my speed back to 7MB/sec so with this speed I am content in not completely doing the work below that Tech was nice enough to take the time to point out. Plus just worry I could screw it up worse. Thanks again Tech. LMAO part of this over a firefox addon who would of thought!

    Hi. How's it goin Pro's?
I am using Lubuntu 12.10 this WAS the first operating system I have come by that finally was downloading at speeds nearly what I am paying for. My internet plan is a staggering 15MB/sec with Suddenlink. I have been using many os's and all of them downloading at what I am now about 700kb/sec now that horrible of course for an internet plan of 15MB/sec.
What Lubuntu 12.10 was downloading at was 10-12MB/sec until I applied all of the NORMAL updates it asked for from sudo apt-get dist-upgrade this is all I did. I believe this is where the problem is coming from but not exactly sure since I tried so many os's that never even hit better than 1.5MB/sec and Lubuntu the first at 10MB/sec. Now I know that I could just reinstall quite possibly but I don't want to do this cause I have already set up all of my programs that I need and want on my system and would hate to download a full day worth of stuff again (besides once I update the system again then I would be back to square 1). Plus it would be nice to know what the actual fix is that I need so in the future if I want to use another system I can and then I could know what I need to get or do. I like distro hopping sometimes every 6 months or so. So far about the only thing I have done is changed the MTU from auto to 1492 (same speed of 700kb/sec) then I changed it too 1500 (same speed of 700kb/sec as well). I also called my cable company and they said from their side it is running faster than it should (go figure and I can't use that speed).

Below is all of the wifi card info and alot more info than needed since this is wifi prob but just in case something wierd is conflicting I included more info. I just ran a benchmark and used a couple codes I knew.
If I am missing something please let me know but I have tried to explain this in full detail for you guys. Thanks to any help I get much appreciated.

forgot to include that I knew my speeds from testmy.net just to assure you all and also tried downloading various things. even torrents never went over 1mb/sec basically

Sorry about the clutter. If this ain't one of the most detailed first writes you've seen on here, I don't know what is. lol
    Thanks guy's

Re: (FULLY Detailed) Please Help Download Speeds 700kb/sec out of 15MB/sec!

It seems like you aren't using the right drivers for that adapter.

You can try just switching to the correct firmware:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe r8192u_usb
as I think ubuntu should come with this firmware now.

If you have no success with that, try:
    Code:
    modprobe -l | grep r81*
and post the results before you try to build from source.

    Code:
    sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/RTL8192SU
    wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37387612/rtl8192sfw.bin.gz
    gunzip rtl8192sfw.bin.gz
    sudo mv rtl8192sfw.bin /lib/firmware/RTL8192SU/
    as per http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...4#post10553443.

You may need to uninstall and/or blacklist your other firmware.

EDIT: It looks like that driver is outdated and only works for the 2.6 kernel. You may need to get a new one and build from source from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...oads=true#2282 (scroll to RTL8188SU and use one of the linux links).

Or you can skip the web interface and get it directly from one of their FTP links:

    Code:
    curl -O ftp://WebUser:Lc9FuH5r@209.222.7.36/cn/wlan/RTL819xSU_usb_linux_v2.6.6.0.20120405.zip
