    11.10 and Nvidia MX4000...

Just did an upgrade last night and as usual I ran into a video card/driver problem..

    Getting the following errors:

(EE) Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist,0)
    (EE) No drivers available
I realize this is an older card but it was working fine in 10.10... any ideas on how to fix?

What graphics card is it? If it is old, it may no longer be supported by the nVidia driver. Sometimes they remove support for older cards. You can, however, use the open source driver.

    It's an older generic card.

Does the "NV" in the xorg identify it as an open source driver already?

Is there a general process for installing the open source drivers anything you could point me to?

    Thanks,

In case anyone runs into this in the future, first download the headers:

    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

then download the driver from Nvidia

    ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/96.43.20/

or check the forum for the latest information on the drivers:

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=122606

Once downloaded simply run the script:

    #sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.20-pkg1.run
