editing the way nautilus manages the desktop?

Is there a way to configure how nautilus manages the desktop? (on gnome 3.2, I'm running oneiric)

More specifically what I want to do is only allow a certain area on my desktop to be able to display launchers, without having to manually arrange them.

Or is there a way to configure a desktop folder to be displayed like in KDE?

I have tried using devilspie, but configuring nautilus' behaviour is not so easy.

No, Nautilus doesn't have such options. However if I remember right Screenlets has a widget that works like the folder view widgets on KDE4 do.

edit: It hasn't been updated for a while, but might still work: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=102890

    thanks!

I will look into it, the screenshots look good.
I didn't really want to go the widget way, but i'll give it a try.

Ok, I've installed the FolderView screenlet and it looks good. So I'll mark this thread as solved.

However the size of the window is not fully customizable, it has a set aspect ratio and you can change the size of the window, does anyone know if there is a way to further edit the size of the window?
