10.10 on Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8372TG

    Hi,

I've put 10.10 (32bit) on my Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8372TG.

There are 2 graphic cards (Intel Integrated and NVidia Geforce 310M) of which I only use the Intel one. Is the 310M powered down when not used or how can I disable that one?

Second the WLAN Chipset is a Broadcom BCM43325 with integrated Bluetooth. WLAN works with STA Driver or bcm80211 but Bluetooth is not recognized by both. Any hints on how to get bluetooth working?

Afer suspend only the backlight switches on, nothing else can be seen (did not test hibernate). What to look for here?

Question Re: 10.10 on Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8372TG

    Hi,

    some more Informations:

    cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch gives
    Code:
    0: :Pwr:0000:01:00.0
    1:+:Pwr:0000:00:02.0
Which is the integrated Intel used. NVidia powered, but unused-

when doing echo OFF > /sys/.../switch the kernel freezes.

    For bluetooth:
It does not appear as USB device, even after pressing Fn+F3 multiple times. WLAN can be enabled / disabled with Fn+F3. Any hints for getting bluetooth up and running?

Suspend / Resume seems to work, didn't change anything.

    Audio / Microphone:

adding "options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad" to /etc/modprode.d/alsa-base.conf gave me full working audio (speaker, headphone, internal mic)

Re: 10.10 on Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8372TG

For bluetooth I had a look at the ACPI DSDT Table. I extracted it with:
    Code:
    sudo cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > dsdt
Using iasl I disassembled the file and tried to recompile.

I got 2 errors and a lot of warnings and even more remarks. I tried to fix the errors and the warnings, injected the table into the initrd and restarted. Bluetooth couldn't be enabled, but hibernate/resume features were gone.

I attached the dsdt table here. Maybe someone with more experience can tell me how to fix bluetooth.

    Thank you,
    Tobias

Re: 10.10 on Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8372TG

By playing around with ACPI calls trying Methods I found in the DSDT I can switch on and off the WIFI Led and I can turn the LED to light blue, which I think would be the indicator for bluetooth. But still the bluetooth module does not appear on the USB Bus...

When calling the routines for Wifi, the Interface gets deactivated as expected.

    Will report my progress here...

Re: 10.10 on Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8372TG

Hi thefloe, I have bought today an acer 5551-2452 with: Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43225 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)

but no luck even with simple wifi networks.....
how have you made it work with maverick??? I activated privative drivers for broadcom STA but nothing happens.... it says activated but no network appears....

    thanks.
    regards,

After installing the STA driver wifi worked for me without additional tweaking. Do you have a switch on your notebook to enable / disable wifi?
There should be a LED indicating that wifi is switched on.

    Hello,

    I had to add

    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad position_fix=1
to make it work. And note that it is modprobe.d and not modprode.d (if someone wonders that he does not find the directory).

I could not make the nvidia graphic to work, but the Intel is fast enough for compiz. And that is all I want

Still out of luck with bluetooth.

    Peter
