Jackalope, it's your money to spend, but I think you're going to find you've spent too much and gotten excessive power than you'll use. Do you seriously know what kinds of applications will need more...

[all variants] Re: Any laptops with trackpoint mouse?

I don't have any experience with them, but from what I've read Lenovo computers are supposed to work well with Linux. You might see if one of their models interests you and consider going that route.

Re: Kernel update broke 12.04 LTS

Last update: I pinned the kernel, and it booted up fine once again. Thanks DuckHook for your help! My laptop isn't a production machine, but I just didn't want to try to fight something like that.

Re: Kernel update broke 12.04 LTS

So, I guess now my question is, how can I either repair the 3.2.0-37-generic kernel so it works, or remove it so that I can just boot into the 3.2.0-36-generic kernel and operate on that?

Re: Kernel update broke 12.04 LTS

    Hello, thanks for your replies.

First off, my bad, I was way out to lunch on the kernel. By holding 'shift' like was mentioned above, I got GRUB and could see that it was actually 3.2.0-37-generic...

Re: Kernel update broke 12.04 LTS

Sorry to say, I can't implement either suggestion.

I took off Unity 2D, so that's not there.

I'm not sure which kernel it was, except that it was in the 3.5 line; I didn't pay attention because...

If it makes any difference, I'm running the 64-bit version. Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that didn't work, though; it just said
    /bin/sh: startx: not found.

    Anyone else?

    Re: Looking for new distro.

Umm, I somehow fail to see the issue. After all, a Debian-based Mint will still work with .deb files. Ubuntu is based on Debian, and so are the Mint Debian Editions.

    Alternatively, as other have...

I guess my main complaint is that I was only looking for help, and it seems to me that my posts got dealt with in a very heavy-handed way.
