  1. Re: Content filtering for just one machine on a network

Or have all go thru the proxy and have different rules on the proxy based on MAC address?

Just a guess. I do not use proxy's for that.

  2. Re: cannot resolve Unknown host (when I add the domain to the hostname)

If you want machines other than the server to recognize it, you will need to look at your local DNS server. For home environments, this is usually the Internet router which typically serves as the...

  4. [server] Re: 20.04: 'apt-get upgrade' added a huge load of packages and threads

If you have not disabled bash history, check the command log to see if there were any "apt install" commands issued under root or any user with sudo access.

Re: File lock not working on shared files

Doesn't MS Office create lock files in the same folder with a similar filename so that if anyone tries to open the same file, Office notices that file and warns the end-user the file is locked?

  7. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04 - Difference between "live" and "legacy"

Added another issue found regarding the installer not recognizing a luks encrypted boot partition. Reference post

  8. [server] Re: installer does not recognize luks encrypted boot partition

Hmmm....looks like I need to update the Ubuntu Server 20.04 - Difference between "live" and "legacy" thread and add this issue to it as well.

  9. [server] Re: installer does not recognize luks encrypted boot partition

Maybe this is similar to the issue I had creating a boot partition with LVM. There is some trickery you have to do with the new non-debian installer for some situations but I have not tried LUKS...

[SOLVED] Re: grub-pc upgrade error w/RAID

Here is a potential way of getting around the problem of needing to do an upgrade-from-fresh-install but needing to re-use the same hardware. It is not fun "trying" an upgrade or "trying" a fresh...

  12. [ubuntu] Re: can i use pivpn on ubuntu server for managing it

Why use pivpn over openvpn? Just curious. I use neither since I have an enterprise firewall with VPN built-in.

As for Docker vs standalone, I still tend to install standalone apps. If the...

[server] Re: noauto ignored in fstab in 20.04?

Ah gotcha. You were talking about the OP's usage...not the "defaults" by itself. But if the end-user has "defaults" in the line, they should really know what that contains and only use it "if" they...

I never do in-place upgrades so the one 18.04 server I have is how it was installed. You seem to have something else going on besides just messing up your sources.list

Re: Sever will not reboot remotely

Make sure you have a good backup BEFORE you do anything.

If the dpkg command and force install did not fix the problem, the next step is to remove the software completely and re-install it.
